raw sewage: 2000 Toyota Camry LE V6 Gas Mileage
A sure indicator that I've got too much time on my hands.

While I have kept track of my gas mileage, I have not
kept track of major events in the car's life that would
affect the gas mileage. However, this graph should at least
give you a decent feel for the kind of gas mileage you can
expect if you owned a similar car. Some important notes:
- I bought the car with about 36,000 miles on it.
- As of November 7, 2003, the car has just over
70,000 miles on it.
- As of December 2, 2008, the car has just over
120,000 miles on it.
- This car is a V6. It's also availabe with a
four cylinder engine. My mom had a 1999 Camry LE
with a four cylinder engine. She regularly got
close to 30 miles per gallon (but her driving is
also much more conservative).
- Driving style is another important consideration.
I'm a fairly fast driver---I bought the V6 for a
reason. <grin> Typically, I accelerate
quickly when the light turns green and when it's my
turn to go at a stop sign. I like to "keep up" with
traffic on interstate highways and tollroads as
well.
- In November, 2002, I moved out of my parents' house
into town. My parents live in the country, which
resulted in a 25 mile commute to work (each way).
This was mostly highway driving, so naturally I got
slightly better gas mileage. When I lived at home,
I had to do a full gas fill-up every four days on
average. Now I have a much shorter commute to work,
and I typically fill up every seven to ten days.
- In October, 2006, I moved to the Chicago suburbs. I
commute downtown every day via the Metra, so I
barely drive my car any more.
- When I lived in Peoria, Illinois (through October,
2006), I drove up to Chicago every month or so to
visit friends. These trips usually resulted in a
two or three mile per gallon improvement in gas
mileage.
